Spicing Things Up at the Chile Cook-Off at No Scum Allowed Saloon

We had the pleasure of attending a Chile Cook-Off at the historic No Scum Allowed Saloon, 76.2 miles from the Buckhorn Tavern, where family, friends, and local residents gathered for a fun and flavorful competition. The event was made even more special by the presence of Uncle Danny, who brought his signature recipe to the competition, adding a personal touch to the already vibrant atmosphere.

The No Scum Allowed Saloon is located in White Oaks, New Mexico, a small town with a rich and fascinating history. Founded in the late 1800s during the height of the mining boom, White Oaks once housed over 1,000 residents, with a bustling community of saloons, stores, and even a schoolhouse. While the mining industry faded, White Oaks has maintained its charm, and the No Scum Allowed Saloon stands as a beloved local landmark. It's not just a place for a drink—it’s a piece of living history where people gather to celebrate, share stories, and enjoy a good time.

As we shared laughs and enjoyed the Chile, it became clear that this event wasn’t just about the food. It was about celebrating community and tradition. The No Scum Allowed Saloon is more than just a place to grab a drink (or two); it’s a living testament to the town’s rich history and the bonds that have been built over generations.

Tips:

  1. Bring a Friend: Events like these are all about community and sharing good times, so bring a friend or two to enjoy the fun.

  2. Dress Comfortably: White Oaks can get a little chilly in the evenings, especially in the fall, so bring a jacket if you plan to stay for the whole event.

  3. Plan for a driver to get your home, it is a drive.

  4. They host events all year check them out here: https://noscumsaloon.com/

We left the cook-off with full bellies and full hearts, grateful for the chance to reconnect with family and experience a slice of New Mexico history. If you ever find yourself in the area, be sure to stop by No Scum Allowed Saloon to enjoy the warmth of a historic town and its people.
