Corrales Day Trip: A Stop at Ex Novo Brewery

Every now and then, it’s good to take a break and head in a direction — and this time, we landed in Corrales, New Mexico, about 101 miles from the Buckhorn Tavern.

That’s how we found ourselves at Ex Novo Brewery, tucked under the cottonwoods with the kind of relaxed, sun-dappled patio that makes you want to stay all afternoon. It’s equal parts craft brewery and local hangout — and everything about it just works.

We sampled a little bit of everything: crisp lagers, hop-forward IPAs, and a seasonal stout that had just enough edge to remind you it was brewed with care. The vibe? Unpretentious, welcoming, and proud of its New Mexico roots — just how we like it.

It’s the perfect kind of day trip from San Antonio: roll up through the bosque, stop in Albuquerque if you need to stretch your legs, and land in Corrales with a beer in hand and nowhere to be in a hurry.

Ex Novo’s Corrales taproom checks all the boxes — great beer, friendly folks, and a setting that feels like a little pocket of peace. If you're ever heading north from the Buckhorn, add this to your map.
